Rising XC Star Emily Batty Joins Trek World Racing
23 Degrees Sports Management is thrilled to announce today that the Canadian rising star of Women's XC racing will be joining its global world cup race program, Trek World Racing. Emily who has been racing for the past two seasons for Trek Store Toronto has been impressing many talent scouts with her recent results, including a top 10 in the Offenburg World Cup in Germany last season. Emily who turns 22 in June, will once again be contesting some Under 23 titles, most notably the World Championships taking place on home soil in September at the legendary Mont-Sainte-Anne venue.
Emily joins the Swiss brothers, Mathias and Lukas Flueckiger to bring the XC component of the team to 3 athletes, along side the 4 athletes racing downhill. Emily's schedule starts off with a US Cup XC race in Fontana, California in March followed later by the Sea Otter Classic, and then a full World Cup schedule. Other notable events will be the classic Swiss Bike Trophy Race in Bern in late June, and various Canadian Cup events and National Championships.
Emily said today: I'm so excited to be taking this next step in my racing career. I have been so well supported by Trek Store Toronto and without them I wouldn't have been in the position to make this progression. With Trek World Racing there is a continuation of the equipment I love, and a lot of experiencewith the other riders and staff and I can't wait to get out there and continue to improve as an athlete. I've gotten to know the Flu Brothers over the past season and they seem like really great guys, very dedicated, and I'm honored tobe riding the World Cup weekends with them.
Team Director Martin Whiteley says: "Emily is such a talent. She impressed me greatly with her ride in Offenburg last year and has endeared herself to fans and media alike all over the world. It's not often in Women's XC that relatively young riders show their potential so early in an elite field, but Emily has the poise, commitment and humility that will allow her to progress toa new level already in the short term. We're super excited to be expanding the program with the addition of a new discipline and we're all looking forward toa very busy schedule in 2010."
Trek MTB Brand Manager Michael Browne says: "Trek is very pleased to complete its roster of top talent with Emily Batty. We're quite grateful to have a feeder program like Trek Store Toronto in place, and are very proud tobe able to showcase Emily's Canadian-grown talent on a global scale. With the addition of Emily, we are truly fulfilling our mission of creating a leadingteam in all categories of mountain bike racing."
With Emily's signing, the complete team roster is now set for 2010.
