Wow ett guld till Sverige och detta i XC MTB vilket får anses vara bland det hårdaste man kan utsätta sig för!

Sveriges nyaste guldstjärna Alexandra Engen har tagit klivet in i finrummet i och med vinsten i Mount Sainte Anne, Canada. Denna tjej är stark och uthållig det kan man se på alla hennes medaljer som tydligt talar sitt språk. Sakta men säkert slår hon alla medtävlare och att sen kunna ta guld medalj är inte fy skam! Twelve months ago, when she took the second place in the U23 Women UCI MTB Worlds in Canberra, Alexandra Engen had sworn she would do better the next time. Coming up at Mont-Sainte-Anne with high expectations, the Swedish rider mostly feared the extreme heat which had marked the opening day. However released by the cloudy skies appearing in the morning, she was able to give her best without worrying too much about the very intense rhythm imposed by Annie Last from the beginning of the event. Engen always had control over the situation, before getting closer and closer to the British leader, whom she finally overtook in the second lap.

After she took the lead, the future World Champion progressively increased the gap, securing a rather comfortable lead in the last kilometers of the race.

In the finish area, she beated Last by 43’’ and Poland’s Paula Gorycka by 3’04’’: such important gaps obviously demonstrate the superiority of Engen, who really deserved the only gold medal granted on the second day of the 2010 UCI MTB & Trials World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne.
